QUETTA, April 13: The Balochistan High Court Bar Association on Tuesday adopted a resolution, condemning PML-N leader Makhdoom Javed Hashmi's conviction besides calling for making the letter , on whose basis the court had handed him the punishment, public to expose the nefarious designs of the government.

The meeting was chaired by president of the Bar association Senator Amanullah Kanrani. Terming the conviction oppressive and unconscientious, the resolution said that Javed Hashmi's conviction was highly condemnable as it was the outcome of what lawyers termed a mock trial based on political victimization.

The resolution said that the state machinery and the court concerned had "blasted all norms of justice, fair play, and equality just to appease the usurpers."

Others, who spoke on the occasion, included Hadi Shakeel Ahmed of the Pakistan Bar Council, Tahir Mohammad Khan, chairperson of the HRCP, Malik Zahoor Shahwani of the Balochistan Bar Council, Azizullah Memon of the PPP, Ayaz Swati of the PML-N, Abdullah Kakar of the JUI-F, and Habib Jalib Baloch of the BNP (Mengal group).

Meanwhile, a meeting of the Jamhoori Watan Party, presided over by its secretary-general, Agha Shahid Bugti, also condemned the conviction awarded to the ARD leader.

PML-N DEMONSTRATION: The Balochistan chapter of the PML-N has decided to stage a demonstration in front of the Balochistan Assembly Secretariat on Wednesday to denounce the sentence awarded to the party's acting president, Javed Hashmi.

The meeting, held at the residence of Khudai Noor Khan on Tuesday, was chaired by the party's provincial vice-president Nasibullah Bazai.storation of constitutional and democratic rule, adding it would strengthen the country's political institutions.

Party workers pledged to continue their struggle under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif against the military dictatorship, adding that the party would neither compromise on principles nor surrender before the autocratic rulers, who they said, were bent upon weakening the country's democratic institutions.

Referring to the proposed demonstration, the meeting's participants said that protesters would either gather in front of the provincial assembly building or at the residence of Sardar Yaqoob Nasar before marching on to the venue of the demonstration.
