KARACHI: Work on schools for Expressway project reviewed
KARACHI, April 13: The Citizens' Foundation, following an agreement with the city government, will set up schools for providing quality education to the children of affectees of the Lyari Expressway Resettlement Project at Hawkesbay
, Taisar Town and Baldia sites.
In this regard, a delegation of the foundation, comprising its Director Mushtaq Chhapra, donor, Riaz Mir and Col Qaisar Hussain Rizvi, visited the project site No 2 of Taisar Town, where they were given a detailed briefing about the plan.
On the occasion, Mr Chhapra said that the foundation was working for promotion of education in many cities besides Karachi and that it would strive for improving the living standards of affectees of the resettlement project, besides providing high-quality education to their children.
At present, work on three schools under the foundation at Hawkesbay site was nearing its completion, while work on schools at Taisar Town site, would start soon, he said.
Briefing the delegation, Project Director Shafiqur Rehman Paracha said the cooperation of organizations like the Citizen Foundation was sought for promotion of education.
In order to provide better educational and health care facilities to the people, the project had obtained the cooperation of relevant departments and other welfare organizations, he added.
Mr Paracha said that at present, four primary schools and a high school were being run at Hawkesbay site, while at Taisar Town, the building of a primary school had been completed and admissions would start during the month.
Later, the delegation, accompanied by Mr Paracha, visited the Rehabilitation Site and reviewed the pace of rehabilitation and development works. The delegation appreciated the spirit of families, who were constructing their houses at the site and noted that they were reusing the blocks, doors and windows of their old houses. -APP
