KARACHI, April 13: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal MNAs and MPAs, on Tuesday, visited the site in Federal B. Area, where the KBCA had demolished residential units and apartment buildings a few days back.
A number of area residents, including women and children of Memon Community, gathered around MMA legislators and told them of their ordeal. They said that they were victimized for not supporting the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in October elections.
According to them, demolition of many other buildings is being threatened by the MQM activists who were demanding them to support their candidate in by-election on National Assembly seat, which was vacant due to resignation of Azizullah Brohi.
The MMA delegation, headed by Asadullah Bhutto, condemned the demolition of residential units and apartment buildings by KBCA staff. They said that the demolition was planned to create harassment among members of Memon Community.
"It is an inhuman act. On the directives of provincial government, KBCA staff demolished residential buildings of those people, who did not support them in elections," the MMA leaders said. Compelling these people to vote for Muttahida candidates was the worst kind of black-mailing, they added.
On this occasion, elders of Memon Community told MMA legislators that they were invited at Muttahida headquarters "Nine Zero" after the KBCA operation and threatened of more consequences if they would not support its candidate in by-election.
"When we approached Farooq Sattar he refused to help us, saying that orders have been given from London," they alleged. MNA Mohammad Hussain Mehnti assured the affected people that this issue would be raised both at national and provincial assemblies and in the Senate as nobody in the country could be victimized for supporting their candidate in the elections.
MNA Abdul Sattar Afghani also condemned KBCA authorities for demolishing residential buildings without prior notices and said that the KBCA had violated its own rules and regulations. "That is the reason, we want it (KBCA) to be controlled by the city government," he added. -PPI
