Peaceful Chehlum procession in Quetta

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, April 11: Amid tight security in and around Imambargahs, the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions was observed here with traditional fervour here on Sunday.

A mourning procession was taken out from Panjabi Imambargah on Alamdar Road, which passed through its traditional route, including Toghi Road and Rehmat Khan Road. Thousands of people participated in the procession. It terminated peacefully at Hazara graveyard.

The Balochistan government had given special permission for taking out the procession late on Saturday night despite a ban in place on religious and political processions in the province for three months.

Several thousand policemen and personnel of the law enforcement agencies had cordoned off the entire route of the procession since midnight. They had put barricades on the streets and roads leading up to Alamdar Road, Toghi Road and Rehmat Khan Road.

The police and Balochistan Reserve Police, the anti-terrorist force and personnel of the Frontier Corps were deployed in the area to control any untoward situation.

The troops also patrolled the city. However, no untoward incident was reported from any part of the city. The Chehlum processions were also taken out in Sibi, Khuzdar and Loralai.
