High Court bench to be set up in Faisalabad

By Our Staff Correspondent

FAISALABAD, April 11: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has acceded to the demand of local lawyers for setting up of a high court bench in Faisalabad and asked the Punjab Governor to implement the plan within the shortest possible period.

The prime minister accepted the longstanding demand of lawyers while speaking to a delegation of the local District Bar Association led by its president Muhammad Hussain, which met him at Iqbal Stadium here on Sunday.

He told lawyers that the present government would fulfil all of its commitments made with the public at all costs. He also assured them that action would be taken against those responsible for delaying this important plan.

He also asked the Punjab governor to take up the matter and discuss the Lahore High Court chief justice for the immediate implementation on his directive. The prime minister also assured the lawyers that he would personally monitor the project.

The DBA delegation informed the prime minister that Gen Pervez Musharraf had also announced to set up a high court bench in Faisalabad during his referendum campaign. But the issue had been in the cold storage since then. It said that the Faisalabad DBA was the only bar in the country which had supported the referendum call of the president.
