Opposition to move bill against anti-labour laws

ISLAMABAD, April 9: The MNAs belonging to the opposition parties would move a bill against anti-labour laws in the National Assembly. This was decided at a consultative body meeting organized by the Pakistan Trade Unions at the Rawalpindi Press Club here on Thursday evening. The representatives of the trade unions and opposition parliamentarians attended the meeting.

The MNAs and representatives of the trade unions termed the Industrial Relations Ordinance 2002 being equivalent to the massacre of working class and rejected it totally. The also decided to assemble at one platform and launch struggle against the labour laws.

Speaking on the occasion, MNA Chaudhry Manzur Ahmed said they would submit a Bill against IRO 2002. He said in the first phase a campaign of signatures would be initiated and later demonstrations against the anti-workers laws would be staged. He said under these laws the contractual system had been given protection.

Labour leader Zafarullah Khan Niazi, representing Pakistan Workers Confederation, also vowed to hold rallies against anti-labour laws. He said the PPP was a workers' party and it would have to return to its manifesto.

MNA Zulfikar Ali Gondal said it was the requirement of the times that we must tried to unite the working class at a single platform and this was the only way to protect the rights of workers and labourers.

He said the PPP was not a multi-class party and is the party of working class. MNA Zummarad Khan said the roots of PPP laid in the workers and farmers, who were the source of power. He expressed determination to raise the problem at all forums. MNA Nayyar Hussain Bokhari said the establishment of the National Security Council aimed at demolishing democracy through a conspiracy.
