HYDERABAD, April 9: Speakers at a seminar on "importance of women studies and feminist historiography" on Friday recommended the inclusion of women in the syllabus to create awareness among the younger generation about contributions made by women in different fields of endeavour.

The seminar was organized by the Institute of Women Development Studies, Univer-sity of Sindh, and the Institute of Women Studies, Lahore, in connection with the Sindh University founder's week celebrations to pay homage to scholar and the founder of the University of Sindh, Allama I.I. Kazi, on the occasion of his 36th death anniversary.

Speaking on the occasion,vice-chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui said Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai had immortalized characters of Marvi, Sorath, Sohni, Leela, Moomal in his poetry and advocated women's rights.

He said the University of Sindh would be the first institution which would undertake efforts for incorporating the history of women in its curriculum. Nighat Saeed Khan, dean, faculty of Women Studies, Lahore, highlighted the aims of the memorandum of understanding signed between the University of Sindh and the Institute of Women Studies, Lahore.

A well known feminist and historian from India, Dr Uma Chakravarty, said there was a need to rewrite history keeping in view the social conditions. She said there were many women who had dedicated their lives for the welfare as well as development of society but these women had not found place in our history. A filmmaker from India, Meenu Gaur, expressed her views on the occasion.
