Chandrika seeks support of all parties

By Our Correspondent

COLOMBO, April 9: President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge, in her first address to the nation on Tuesday after her party's victory in the April 2 polls , called on all political parties to support her in forming a majority government.

"I once more propose as I have done several times in the past ten years, in all sincerity and seriousness, that all national parties and organizations put aside narrow personal group interests and rise to the clarion call of the nation, to join hands with the new government," she said in the wake of the reports that the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (with five seats) and the Ceylon Workers Congress (with eight seats) would support former prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's party.
