Landmine kills 26 policemen in India

RANCHI, April 8: At least 26 policemen were killed in India's eastern state of Jharkand when their vehicles ran over landmines suspected to have been planted by leftist rebels, a government official said on Thursday.

The incident took place late on Wednesday in the district of Chaibasa, about 150km southeast of Ranchi, the state capital, district administrator Amarinder Pratap Singh told Reuters by telephone.
