COLOMBO, April 8: Sri Lanka have included fast bowler Dilhara Fernando in a 16-member squad for the upcoming one-day series in Zimbabwe, the selectors announced here on Thursday.
The 24-year-old pace man returned to the team after missing the recent one-day and Test series at home against Ricky Ponting's Australians due to a back injury. He has so far bagged 73 wickets in 55 one-dayers.
Sri Lanka travel to Zimbabwe this month for five one-dayers and two Test matches. The first One-day International will be played at Bulawayo on April 20. Sri Lanka have also included three newcomers - spinner Rangana Herath, pace bowler Farveez Maharoof and batsman Thilina Kandamby - in the one-day team led by opening batsman Marvan Atapattu.
Off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan will continue to play for Sri Lanka despite being reported for a suspect bowling action. The controversial spinner is just seven wickets short of breaking retired West Indies fast bowler Courtney Walsh's world record of 519 Test wickets. Sri Lanka will announce the Test side after the one-day series.
