ISLAMABAD, April 5: Mohib Asad, who was elected the president of the South Asian Badminton Confederation (SABC) on Monday, said he would do his best to revive the sport. "Badminton used to be an Asian game but Europe has now become its powerhouse," he told journalists. "We will do our best to regain our supremacy." Amir Hayat Rokhri, another Pakistani, was elected the secretary of SABC.

Mohib, also the chief of Pakistan Badminton Federation (PBF), said his South Asian body would hold bilateral competitions for popularising the sport including a satellite tournament this November.

As part of improving the state of badminton in Pakistan, Mohib pointed out that six teams were sent to Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia and Iran to take part in various competitions.

On the domestic front, the PBF staged several tournaments, he added. He called for an enhancement in annual grant being given to the PBF. "The existing grant is not enough."
