Dam issue should not be politicized - Ibad

SANGHAR, April 5: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said that construction of dams is necessary to meet water requirements. He was talking to journalists in Tando Adam where he had come to inaugurate the Al-Haj Suleman Roshan Medical Centre on Monday. He also attended a luncheon hosted by MPA Imam Din Shauqeen.

Dr Ibad said that the issue of construction of dams should not be politicized and added that the government's stance on the issue was very clear. He elaborated that the need of water was increasing day by day and if they continued to allow wastage of river water by going into the sea, it would increase poverty.

He said that the government had formed parliamentary and technical committees on the water issue and people should wait for their recommendations. The governor said that debates were being held on issue and the opposition would also be taken into confidence.

Mr Ibad said that the Sindh government was taking steps for improving law and order situation, developing agriculture sector and providing employment and basic facilities to people.

Adds our Hyderabad Bureau: Earlier talking to journalists after inaugurating 260th Urs celebrations of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai in Bhit Shah, he said that the Hyderabad Development Package was very much there and asked the people not to get confused over the package and source of its funding.

Answering a question on the statement of prime minister about protest against the Greater Thal canal and Kalabagh dam projects, the governor said that everyone was had his opinion on any issue but if anybody violated law, he would be dealt with in accordance with law.

About National Finance Commission award, he said that consensus was being build up among the four provinces and federation on share of provinces in the award. He added that every province must get its due share in the award.

To a question whether Sindh would withdraw from its stand on its share on revenue generation basis, he said that there were positive reports that the issue would be resolved through consensus.

About arrest of Mohajir Qaumi Movement leader Afaq Ahmed, he said that the arrest was part of a campaign against terrorists and criminals and added that several terrorists had been arrested so far. To a question about policemen's killings in Karachi, he said that the police had obtained leads pertaining to the killings.
