KARACHI: Flyover on highway inaugurated

KARACHI, April 4: Federal Minister for Communication Senator Babar Khan Ghauri on Sunday inaugurated the N-5 flyover, named 'Sassui Bridge', at Ghaghar Phattak on the National Highway.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister noted that the 93-metre-long bridge was completed ahead of schedule at a cost of Rs92.857 million. Work on the flyover had been started on August 28, 2002.

Mr Ghauri said that he had set up a Vigilance Cell in Islamabad to monitor the development work being carried out under his ministry. The Cell, he added, ensured quality and timely completion of the projects.

He said that work on the Karachi Package, announced by President Musharraf, would formally being on Tuesday (April 6) when construction of Landhi-Korangi main road, known as '8,000 Road', would be kicked off.

Senator Ghauri also received applications from local residents and issued on-the-spot orders. NHA Chairman Maj-Gen Farrukh Javed, in his briefing to the minister, said that a 30-metre-long section - between Pakistan Steel turn and Ghaghar Phattak - was also being dualized. -APP
