MMA opposes NSC

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, April 3: MMA vice-president Prof Sajid Mir says the alliance shall never vote for the National Security Council (NSC) bill, fearing that it will pave the way for dictatorship.

Presiding over a special meeting of the party here on Saturday, he said: "The bill is a test case for the MPs to decide whether to accept generals' rule through the NSC or revive democratic values."

The religious alliance would not endorse the bill because it would enslave the future generations to the armed forces, he said.

Seeking cooperation of other political parties and alliances for opposing the bill, the professor said it was time for all democratic forces to join hands to launch a struggle in and outside the parliament.

Mr Mir, who is chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ahle Hadith, alleged that Gen Pervez Musharraf had been brought to power only to sell out Kashmir, nuclear assets and religious identity of the nation.

Holding the PML-Q responsible for the situation, he said Gen Musharraf had started implementing the US agenda after his address to joint session of the parliament.

Admitting that politicians had been used by the army many times, he said that Prime Minister Jamali had crossed all limits in this regard.

He warned that "proteges of dictators would go along with their masters."

Meanwhile, the Jamiat announced that its members would attend the two-day Ahle Hadith conference in Sargodha on April 8 and 9.
