Zaheer to miss second Test

MULTAN, March 31: India's left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan has been ruled out of the second Test against Pakistan due to a suspected hamstring injury, the team's manager said.

The 25-year-old did not bowl in Pakistan's second innings of the first Test after bowling 23 overs in the first, taking one wicket for 76 runs as the hosts were dismissed for 407 earlier on Wednesday.

"Zaheer will miss the second Test because of a muscle strain in his right leg. It's a suspected hamstring injury," Ratnakar Shetty said on Wednesday. "We'll conduct further tests in Lahore later this week, but he's definitely out of the match," he added.

Zaheer had only returned for the Pakistan tour after being out for two months because of a hamstring injury he sustained on the tour of Australia. India captain Saurav Ganguly was already ruled out for the first two Tests due to a back injury.

The second Test starts in Lahore on April 5 with the final Test in Rawalpindi beginning on April 13. -Reuters
