KARACHI, March 30: The non-governmental organization, Gulbahao, has put on display a pre-fabricated room constructed with waste material. In a press release, the NGO said the blocks used in the construction of the room were made up of discarded, but clean, shopping bags.

Gulbahao collects domestic waste and utlizes the same in developing useful things. It also sells the material to recycling industry but its main aim is to ensure a pollution-free environment.

The waste-made blocks are modular and portable. They could be easily be joined together to raise a structure like room, swimming pool, sofa, cubicle, wall, partition, etc., says the NGO.

The 15x10 feet room on display costs between Rs8,000 and Rs15,000. The unique structure will remain on display till April 10 at the scientific exhibition, organized by the Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR), near National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA).
