PESHAWAR: Development of Fata top priority, says governor

PESHAWAR, March 27: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has said that rapid development of FATA and provision of civic amenities to the tribal people is a priority of the government.

He was addressing the Political Agents conference at the governor's house here on Saturday.

The governor directed the political authorities to keep a vigil over law and order situation in their respective areas and chalk out necessary strategies in this connection in accordance with their local requirements.

The conference reviewed the law and order situation and discussed the fallout of Wana operation. The political agents on this occasion presented a detail review about the prevailing position in their respective agencies.

Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah, while reminding the political officers of their responsibilities, said they must keep their fingers on the pulse and closely watch the nature of the circumstances. He stressed the need for taking concrete measures to curb the aftereffects of Wana operation in other tribal areas.

Tribal people as well as their elders should also be taken into confidence by keeping them fully informed about the causes and background of the action taken against foreign elements, he added.

The governor directed the political authorities to closely watch the unwanted and miscreants in their respective areas. He said that every situation must be evaluated realistically and future strategy should be chalked out in its light.
