KARACHI, March 4: An anti-terrorism court sentenced on Thursday three activists of the banned Khuddamul Islam to a five-year term for collecting donations for "Jihad."
The activists of the banned outfit, Syed Khalid Raza, Abdus Salam and Shakir Ullah, were also fined Rs100,000 each by Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch of the ATC-5, who ordered that the defaulter on the payment would have to undergo an additional six-month term.
The activists were arrested on Nov 22, 2003 in front of Masjid-i-Quba in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Block-7, where they were collecting donations from the passersby.
According to prosecution, the activists were holding a banner, inscribed with "Manzil door nahi - Jihad kay liay dil khol kar chanda do" (Destination is not too far - Donate generuously for holy war).
The police seized Rs2,500, a banner and two receipt books, from the activists, who were represented by Nihal Hashmi. The state was represented by special public prosecutor Mazhar Qayyum.
