LAHORE, March 3: Bay filly Theatre's Breeze, one of the leading contenders for Sunday's Pakistan Derby has been withdrawn following an injury she sustained during track work.
The winner of 1000 Guineas Of Pakistan, Theatre'sBreeze injured her tendon while galloping in morning work. Her disappointed trainer, Haji Ghulam Sarwar said the tendon had big swelling and he was not going to run her.
The probable Derby runners are: Naseeb, Saqi, KeenWinner, Great Boy, Ponche, Captain Crash, Lucky Dawn, Where Or When, Fair Play and Freedom Dancer. Leading four-year-old from Karachi, Captain Crash (Shareek-Classic Touch) and Keen Winner (Tanuf-Bold A Maiden) have specially been sent with high hopes to take part in the Derby.
The other cup events are the Lahore Classic Cup over 2000 metres, the National Breeders Cup over 1200 metres, the Stewards Cup over 1400 metres, the L. R. C. Cup over 1600 metres and the Basant Cup over 1200 metres.
The Lahore Classic Cup is a term race for four-year-old and above I & II (Class III animals eligible). The beauty of this race is that it will be truly an international event with entries of imported fillies from Irish, English and American-bred progenitors, who have captured attention ofrace fans during the on-going Lahore Winter Meetings.
