HYDERABAD: Quetta killings condemned

HYDERABAD, March 3: The Imamia Students Organization staged a protest demonstration outside the local press club on Wednesday to condemn the killings of mourners in Quetta.

ISO divisional president Ghazanfar Abbas demanded that the government should arrest the assailants who killed several mourners in Quetta on Tuesday. He said the incident took place in Quetta where 54 people were killed on July 4, 2003, although all agencies of the country remained on high alert.

He said the police did not return fire while firing continued from a building. Meanwhile, the Shiyane Haider-i-Karar staged a protest procession outside the press club to protest against the killings of mourners in Quetta and in Mandi Bahauddin. Nizamul Haider, Azhar Hussain Jafri, Nasir Abbas and others demanded that heirs of the assailants should be compensated.

SU MEETING: A meeting of Ph.D scholars of the Dr M. A. Kazi Institute of Chemistry, Institute of Biochemistry and the Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, University of Sindh, was held here on Wednesday.

The participants suggested construction of a separate hostel for M.Phil and Ph.D research scholars. Vice-chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui presided over the meeting. Meanwhile, the vice-chancellor has called upon banks to cooperate with university employees in construction/purchase of houses.
