LAHORE, March 3: The Lahore Coordination Committee of the PPP has demanded that flour price should be brought down to Rs7 a kg. At a meeting here on Wednesday , the participants condemned the government for its failure to ensure sustained supply of the essential commodity to the people at fixed rates.

They said the claims that foreign exchange reserves had shot up to $12 billion would become meaningless unless the people got some relief. It was tragic that citizens of a country which produced surplus wheat were having to purchase flour at prohibitive prices.

Those who participated in the meeting were Khalid Kharal, Jehangir Badr, Qasim Zia, Ahmad Mukhtar, Afzal Sindhu, Mian Misbahur Rehman, Altaf Qureshi and Munir Ahmad Khan.

The committee condemned the government for its failure to maintain law and order during Muharram. It also took exception to Wana operation and called for an immediate end to it.

It said armed intervention in tribal areas had further aggravated the situation and could lead to further breakdown of the law and order.

It criticized the prime minister for his recent utterances against the two-nation theory. The participants also condemned the ban on government ads to a group of publications.
