HYDERABAD, Feb 28: The director general, Hyderabad Development Authority, appointed a fact-finding committee here on Saturday to ascertain the cause of death of a teenaged girl who drowned in a drain in the Site area on Thursday evening.

Technical Services-I deputy director Mohammad Younus was appointed chairman of the committee while Technical Services-II deputy director Abdul Hameed and HDA secretary Shaukat Hayat were appointed members of the committee.

The committee was also directed to suggest ways and means to avoid such incidents in future and also to suggest income sources for construction of protective walls along drains.

The committee is to submit its report in three days.

CIVIL VOLUNTEERS: District coordination officer Mohammad Hussain Syed, who is also the controller of the Hyderabad Civil Defence, has directed volunteers of civil defence organizations to remain present for duties from Feb 28 to March 2.

Civil Defence additional controller Mohammad Suleman Chohan directed wardens to cooperate with the police of their respective areas and other law enforcement agencies as well as the district administration in maintaining law and order.

He also directed that the volunteers should guide mourning processions and provide medical treatment to the injured.

He said two civil defence camps would be set up at Tilak Incline and opposite the Koh-i-Noor Shopping Centre on the 10th of Moharram.

Meanwhile, functions in connection with the World Civil Defence Day on March 1 have been postponed to be held on March 3.

TEACHERS: The All-Sindh Primary Teachers Association has taken exception to the statement of Sindh education minister Irfanullah Khan Marwat against the teachers' organizations.

In a statement the other day, the central president of the association, Rafique Jarwar, senior vice-president Shaheen Akhtar, acting general secretary Jan Nazar Sehto and others said that the PTA represented 125,000 primary teachers and it was a non-political organization which was struggling for the genuine rights.
