PESHAWAR: Inquiry ordered into killing by police

PESHAWAR, Feb 26: The NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has ordered probe into the killing of a man by the police in Lakki Marwat, said an official statement.

He issued these directives while talking to a delegation from Lakki Marwat led by MPAs Anwar Kamal Marwat and Imranullah Marwat at CM secretariat here on Thursday.

He assured the delegation that after a thorough probe strict action would be taken against those responsible. Separately, the CM directed judicious and transparent distribution of Zakat funds among the poor in the province.

He warned that strict action will be taken against those involved in funds embezzlement. He was presiding over two different briefings regarding the ongoing developmental schemes in Mardan and Swabi districts.

MNAs Shuja-ul-Mulk, Maulana Mohammad Qasim, Maulana Khalil Ahmed Mukhlis, MPAs Amanat Shah, Maulana Jabal Majid Khan, Israr-ul-Haq and Shams-ur-Rehman Shamsi, Najib Khan, Zaman Khan and DCOs of respective districts were also present on the occasion.

He directed improvement in Zakat fund distribution in Mardan and preparing of a comprehensive report in this regard so that action could be taken against those involved in misappropriation of funds.

Mr Durrani also said that funds meant for maintenance and repairs should not be spent on new schemes and asked the authorities to ensure timely repair of government buildings and roads.

He directed the district administration to cooperate with elected representatives and consult them while planning developmental schemes. About the Taamir-e-Sarhad Programme, the chief minister was informed that 117 uplift projects had been approved and Rs40.226 million released.

He said the provincial government was in touch with the federal government for the provision of Sui gas to Swabi district. He also directed the authorities concerned to select a proper site for the construction of a stadium in Swabi district and assured full cooperation in this regard.

He also called for expediting construction work on Jehangira-Swabi-Topi road. He said the provincial government will provide funds for timely completion of development projects.

He also issued directives to the food department to hand over its godown to education department for the construction of a school. He said the government believed in the uniform development of all the districts of the province and funds had been equally distributed among the districts for this purpose. He said the people will soon see the development projects on the ground.
