PESHAWAR, Feb 25: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has said that necessary machinery has been shifted to the site of Lowari tunnel, and assured that Chitral would receive maximum funds for development.

Speaking here on Tuesday at a briefing regarding development activities in Chitral, he said that with the construction of Lowari tunnel the communication problem of the area would be solved.

He said that completion of this gigantic project would usher in an era of development and prosperity and added that Rs420 million had been earmarked for various development projects in the district. Mr Durrani expressed anguish over the low quality of wheat and ordered an inquiry into the matter so that responsible persons could be taken to task.

"We have taken on board all the stakeholders in the decision-making process. The elected representatives should keep an eye on all activities", he said, adding that the MMA would not allow the culture of likes and dislikes and would discourage the misuse of resources.

The chief minister was informed that 36 projects in education, health, communications and other social sectors were being completed at a cost of Rs200 million, while Rs3.2 million was being spent under the Taamir-i-Pakistan programme, and Rs91 million on various irrigation schemes under the Drought Emergency Relief Assistance programme.

Another 12 schemes had been initiated under the Taamir-i- Sarhad Programme, while Rs108.309 million was set aside for schemes under Khushal Pakistan Programme. Similarly, 63 schemes were being executed under the Sarhad Rural Support Programme.
