HYDERABAD, Feb 24: District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman has constituted a nine-member committee to maintain law and order and meet any eventuality during Muharram.
The committee comprises the Nazim as its head and the DCO, DPO, Wasa managing director, Hesco director, EDO, finance and planning, and City, Latifabad and Qasimabad taluka Nazims as members. The committee was formed at a meeting held at the Shahbaz Building here on Monday to discuss the law and order situation.
The Nazim, who presided over the meeting, said the members of the committee would be available at its headquarters established at the office of the DSP City to monitor the situation.
He asked the City Nazim to establish a control room at the taluka level on the same pattern of departmental representation at his office. The district Nazim urged the police, HDA, Wasa, Hesco, district government officers and TMAs to undertake joint efforts to provide security and civic amenities to processionists and maintain the sanctity of the month.
He directed the Wasa managing director to collect reports of requirements from departments concerned, prepare a contingency plan and submit the same to him in three days to ensure law and order, especially on the ninth and 10th Muharram. He also asked him to ensure proper water supply and disposal of sewage, specially from routes of processions.
He urged Hesco authorities to ensure regular supply of electricity to the city, specially to eight sensitive pumping stations pointed out by the Wasa managing director to avoid overflow of sewage on roads during processions.
Expressing satisfaction over the declaration of emergency by the HDA director general, the Nazim directed the taluka Nazims not to leave their areas till proceedings of Muharram were over.
He also asked the EDO, health, to make emergency facilities available at hospitals of the city to face any eventuality. DPO A. D. Khwaja, while briefing the meeting about the security plan, said eight close-circuit cameras had been installed at different sensitive points.
DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed, Wasa managing director Tahir Ahmad and Nazims of City, Latifabad and Qasimabad taluka also briefed the meeting about arrangements made by them to provide facilities to processionists.
Meanwhile, presiding over a meeting of the District Peace Committee at his secretariat here on Monday, the district Nazim appealed to Ulema of all sects to play their role to maintain brotherhood among Muslims and observe the sanctity of Muharram.
He assured the committee members that holding of any function, operating of cable network, except religious programmes, display of objectionable signboards and wall chalking in the city would not be allowed.
