PESHAWAR: Man held for handing out bogus TV licences

PESHAWAR, Feb 22: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has seized two bogus receipt books of Pakistan Television Corporation licences and arrested a man during a raid in Pabbi town in Nowshera district on Sunday, official sources said.
The FIA on receiving information about the illegal distribution of bogus receipts of PTV licences in Nowshera district, raided the sub-office of Khyber Corporation in Pabbi and arrested its assistant manger, Kashif Ahmad, said Inspector Shahid Ilyas.
He said that the PTV authority had awarded the current year's contract for distributing PTV licences to Khyber Corporation, but some of their workers were fraudulently giving away bogus receipts without issuing genuine PTV licences.
Most of the victims who received bogus receipts were Afghan refugees and people from poor localities in the district, who had no idea about the original PTV licence, the inspector added.
A domestic TV holder has to pay a yearly fee of Rs300 and Rs120 as urcharge. Whereas the fee and the surcharge for the commercial TV holders were double, he informed.
But, Mr Kashif issued many receipts of Rs180 to the TV holders with big discounts and without handing them the original copy of the TV licences. The FIA also recovered another bogus receipt book by the name of 'police discount' and they would investigate the matter to ascertain its purpose, he added.
Mr Shahid said that the FIA also contacted the head office in Peshawar, but the owners denied having issued them bogus receipt books. The FIA has registered the case and started investigation.
