PESHAWAR, Feb 14: Federation of Thalassaemia Society of Pakistan has urged the people to donate blood so that the affected children could be cured.

The plea was made at a meeting of the federation held with Professor Dr Tahir Khan in the chair, at the Fatimid Foundation.

The meeting was attended by representatives of NGOs involved in the procurement of blood to be transfused to the affected children.

It said that donating blood after every three months was good for the health of normal people. The meeting was informed that the people held wrong notion about donation of blood.

It was said at the meeting that in no way was blood donation harmful to the people. In reality, it benefited the donors, instead.

The meeting discussed ways and means to improve the infrastructure to treat patients suffering from thalassaemia and asked the people to contact the doctors for the treatment of their children.

It said the disease was curable provided the people contacted the right doctors at the right time and blood transfusion took place at the right time.

The meeting also reviewed progress so far made concerning the treatment facilities of the disease and chalked out plans to treat its patients in different parts of the province.
