Jatoi opposes Thal canal, Kalabagh dam projects

By Our Correspondent

SHIKARPUR, Feb 8: National People's Party chairman Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi has said the National Finance Commission award should be given on the basis of income, population and size of the provinces.

He said this while speaking at a news conference at the Jatoi House here on Sunday. About the Kalabagh dam and the greater Thal canal, Mr Jatoi opposed the construction of the disputed projects and said the government should avoid implementing projects which were against the interests and unity of the country.

Replying to a question, he expressed concern over the law and order situation and said the government should improve the situation and ensure peace in the country.

The NPP chief said he supported Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar because he was capable to run the Sindh government. He said Mr Mahar should be provided with full support and powers.

Replying to another question, he said his party would not compromise on its principle or join any group. Referring to army's role in politics, the NPP chief observed that elected governments had never been allowed to complete their tenures.
