KARACHI: Govt to keep liaison with people: Ibad
KARACHI, Feb 4: Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said that elected representatives have been asked to keep a close liaison with people to restore socio-economic activity in Karachi.
He was talking to a cross-section of people who called on him at Governor House to exchange Eid greetings on Monday.
He said the government was committed to keep interaction with people at all levels to seek their maximum cooperation.
He said on the eve of Ramazan, Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha, the city remained peaceful and socio-economic activities were in full swing, which depicted the efficiency of the government.
Earlier, the governor performed Eid prayers at Old Polo Ground, where former governor Moinuddin Haider, Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakal Kazi and Naib Nazim Tariq Hassan also offered their prayers.
After the prayers, Corps Commander Lt General Ahsan Saleem Hayyat, Sindh Education Minister Irfanullah Marwat, Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakal Kazi and other senior civil and army officers called on the governor to exchange Eid greetings.
Later, the governor visited various areas of the city to see cleanliness arrangements made by the city government, especially for the removal of offal of sacrificial animals.
On his visit, the respective Town Nazims and Town Municipal Officers briefed the governor about the arrangements made for cleanliness in their towns.
The governor listened the problems of the residents in different localities and issued on-the-spot orders wherever necessary for their resolution.
Meanwhile, Sindh chief minister's advisor on Local Governments and Katchi Abadis, Waseem Akhtar, on Wednesday expressed dissatisfaction over the cleanliness and offal-lifting operation in various parts of the metropolis.
He was on an emergency visit to various parts of the city, accompanied by the district coordination officer and town Nazims.
He visited Jamshed Road, Mahmoodabad, Sharea Faisal, Rashid Minhas Road, PIB Colony, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, FB Area, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gulistan-i-Jauher, Orangi Town and Lasbela.
Speaking on the occasion, the advisor said that there was a room for improvement and asked the town administrat-ions to work hard to clean the areas.
He specifically pointed out the pools of sewage and heaps of garbage in various parts of the city.
Expressing his concern over stoppage of funds from the city government to Orangi Town, the advisor said that he would approach Sindh governor and chief minister for special funds.
He assured the residents that community-based mega projects would be initiated in Orangi Town soon, adding that the government had finalized strategy for these projects.-APP
