PESHAWAR, Feb 1: Afghan refugees celebrated Eid-ul-Azha with religious fervour in different parts of the NWFP and the adjacent tribal areas on Sunday.

The Afghans, living in makeshift camps in Peshawar and other urban centres in the province and in tribal areas, offered Eid prayers and slaughtered animals to commemorate the grand tradition of Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim and mark the culmination of pilgrimage at Makkah.

The Afghans living in the Board area, Hayatabad township, Katcha Garhi camp, Nasir Bagh camp, Peshawar city, Shamshatu refugee camp, Jalozai makeshift camp and other areas in the limits of Peshawar district held congregations and offered Eid prayers.

Traditionally, Afghans celebrate all religious festivals, including Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha, and fast during Ramazan simultaneously with Saudi Arabia.

In Afghanistan, Eid-ul-Azha was also celebrated on Sunday. After offering Eid prayers in open places, the faithful hugged each other and exchanged greetings. Later, they sacrificed animals.
