KARACHI, Jan 29: Almost all the major and link roads and street roads were damaged in Lyari Town due to Thursday's intermittent rains. The road network in the town had collapsed during the last monsoons , a fact which was acknowledged by all authorities - federal, provincial and city governments.

A survey showed that the recent intermittent rains had completely ruined major arteries including Shah Latif Bhittai Road, a link road between Saddar and Lyari towns.

Despite repeated assurances by the authorities, work on the damaged roads could not be carried out in the town after the monsoons. The provincial and the city governments had repeatedly assured the people of urgent repair works on the damaged roads, particularly on Shah Latif Bhittai Road, on a priority basis.

Residents said the efforts of the city government to fill the potholes and ditches with gravels had not solved the problem. The town's Nazim, in a communication to the President, has urged financial assistance to carry out roadwork in the town.
