PESHAWAR, Jan 21: The prosecution has withdrawn a case against two police officials charged with killing a citizen in a fake encounter.

A public prosecutor informed an anti-terrorism court here on Wednesday that under section 169 of the Criminal Procedure Code, an inquiry officer had exonerated the two officials - Mathra police station SHO Jamrud Khan and an ASI Hastham Khan - from the charges.

The prosecutor informed the court that the case investigation officer had stated that no evidence was found against the officials on the basis of which they could be tried, therefore, the case against them should be withdrawn.

The case was registered on the directives of the Peshawar High Court after a writ petition was filed by Ms Parwara, mother of the deceased Said Rehman, a resident of Mathra, Warsak Road.
