BD minister accused of corruption

By Our Correspondent

DHAKA, Jan 12: The Communication Minister of Bangladesh, Barrister Nazmul Huda, has been accused of corruption by lawmakers of his own party in connection with the import of several thousand CNG-run three wheelers from India.

A couple of parliament members, belonging to the ruling BNP, made the accusation at a meeting of the parliamentary standing committee of the ministry of communication on January 7. The MPs alleged that the ministry allowed a particular company to import 10,000 three-wheelers, rescinding an earlier decision that the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority will do the job.

The MPs alleged, with the communication minister present at the meeting, that the ministry gave "undue favour" to the particular company, "understandably for the financial benefit of the top bosses of the ministry concerned".
