Customs stay on course for final

KARACHI, Jan 11: Pakistan Customs chalked up their fourth win in the Patron's Cup despite a lacklustre performance against Bangladesh 'A' at National Stadium on Sunday. The victory kept Customs' prospects of making the final from Pool 'A' if they upset defending champions PIA in the last match next weekend at the same venue. Both Customs and PIA have 16 points each but the champions are ahead on net run-rate.

After electing to bat first, Customs recovered from 52 for five to 172 all out in the 45th over. Skipper Aamir Bashir held together the innings with 69 off 101 balls that included six boundaries. He was eighth out at the total of 155.

Manjural Islam, the Bangladesh Test paceman, claimed three for 29. Bangladesh 'A', in reply, never looked like reaching their target as they collapsed to 92 for nine by the 38th over.

However, Alamgir Kabir (18) and Manjural Islam (13 not out) then came together in a frustrating last wicket partnership of 45 - easily the highest of the innings - before Customs finally broke through.

Junaid Zia, the medium-pacer, did the early damage as he took three wickets in an opening burst. He finished with four for 38.
