PESHAWAR: Spurious drugs seized

Published January 11, 2004

PESHAWAR, Jan 10: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has seized a large quantity of spurious and unregistered drugs from the main medicine market of the city and arrested a man, said a press release issued here on Saturday.

An FIA team raided the market after receiving information about sale of spurious and unregistered drugs in the Namakmandi medicine market.

The FIA team along with drug inspectors raided the shops owned by Hameed Akbar and recovered spurious and unregistered drugs, packing material, physician samples, expired drugs and government hospitals orders from his possession.

Hameed Akbar told the FIA that Peshawar was the main market of spurious and unregistered drugs because of its proximity to the tribal area, which borders Afghanistan. An special judge later granted three-day physical remand of the accused.
