PESHAWAR: Hashish, arms seized

PESHAWAR, Jan 8: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) seized 1200 kilograms of hashish from two containers and arrested two persons on Ring Road here on early Thursday.

According to an official statement, the FIA on a tip-off checked trucks and trawlers going towards Punjab on Ring Road near Haji Camp area. At 3am, the FIA team signalled a trawler No C-1122 carrying two 20ft containers.

The driver of the trawler accelerated the speed, but the FIA after a brief chase forced the long vehicle to stop. During checking the FIA team recovered 1200kg of hashish packed in one kilogramme polythene packets each.

Arshad Hussain son of Saifoor Khan and Mukarram Shah, son of Haji Khushhall Khan, both residents of Landi Kotal (Khyber Agency) were arrested. Separately, the city police in a midnight operation arrested 19 proclaimed offenders in the limits of Chamkani police station and seized a large quantity of arms and ammunition from them on Thursday. The police recovered four hand grenades, two Kalashnikovs, one Kalakov, five rifles, nine pistols and 244 cartridges from their possession.
