Sinha calls for making ceasefire permanent

ISLAMABAD, Jan 1: Indian Foreign Minister Yashwant Sinha arrived here on Thursday to participate in preparatory work for the 12th summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (Saarc), officials said.

He will attend a two-day meeting of the council of ministers of the regional grouping on Friday. Before leaving for Islamabad, Mr Sinha called for making ceasefire "permanent" in divided Kashmir.

"India is interested in making this a permanent ceasefire. It is incumbent on both countries to ensure that the ceasefire holds," Sinha told reporters at the airport. -AFP
