HYDERABAD, Dec 31: The Academic Council of Sindh Agriculture University at its 53rd meeting on Tuesday decided to discard outdated syllabus and appointed a five-member committee , headed by Dr Bashir Shaikh, to study the syllabus approved by the Higher Education Commission.

SAU vice-chancellor Dr Bashir Chandio presided over the meeting which also decided to introduce semester system in the department of information technology. The meeting was of the view that the university was offering 25-year-old syllabus to students and it should be updated as per the HEC recommendations.

The meeting designated 42 teachers as members of the Board of Advance Studies for different departments to decide research and academic issues. Admission of six students of the Shaheed Major Maqbool Institute which was affiliated with the university was also approved.

CERTIFICATES: The SAU controller of examinations, Ali Murad Goraho, in a statement on Wednesday accused certain groups of misguiding the students on the issue degree certificates.

He said some students who had no interest in their studies completed their course in ten years instead of four years and added that they were not only bringing bad names to the parents but also to the alma mater.

He said those students who appeared in 10 to 15 supplementary examinations could not be given the same certificate which was given to regular and able students.

He said there should be a clear distinction between a good student and inefficient ones. Mr Goraho said some groups with a view to deriving political mileage were using the students.

SU: Director admissions Sindh University on Wednesday extended the date for submission of forms of admissions to the department of public management sciences to MPA upto Jan 1, 2004 and post graduate diploma in the public administration under self-finance scheme evening programme.
