LAHORE, Dec 27: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool has said that all universities in the province should develop a computerized system to monitor examinations and ensure security on campus.

The governor was talking to reporters after inspecting a recently-installed computer network at University of Engineering and Technology’s vice-chancellor office, library, examination and accounts sections.

He said that all universities in the province should also computerize all of their functions and virtually become ‘paper-less’ universities. He said the universities should ensure availability of computers for each faculty member and student.

Earlier, UET’s software engineering director Prof Dr Shaiq Haque briefed the governor about the networking software and its functioning at VC office, library, examination and accounts sections.

Responding to governor’s queries, Prof Haque said every function of the university, except paper-marking, had been linked to the computer network and all faculty members, officials and students were using computers. The UET VC, however, said that some senior teachers were still computer-shy. He said the computer culture would hopefully be implemented fully within a couple of years.

The governor said UET’s IT team should also work to computerize the university functioning so that students could even check the details of their classes, examinations and library work.

He said the government would award the IT research team which developed the networking software and implemented in the university. He admitted that outsourcing of this computer networking might have been very expensive.
