PESHAWAR, Dec 22: Authorities have recovered an arms cache near the tribal area bordering Afghanistan, an official said Monday.

“Heavy weapons were recovered during a routine search,” Shafirullah, a local administration official told reporters in Kurram town in the Parachinar district, 105 kilometres southwest of Peshawar.

He said that security personnel found weapons when they searched goods loaded on camels in the Salih Khana area near Pakistan-Afghanistan border, adding that the smugglers fled.

“The seized cache include 139 anti-personnel mines, 10 rocket shells, 38 rocket launcher chargers, 39 anti-personnel mine fuses and other small weapons,” Safirullah said. “We are sure that the seized arms and ammunition were intended for use in sabotage activities in Pakistan,” he said.—AFP
