KARACHI:CDGK receives record bids for medicine purchase

KARACHI, Dec 8: City government has received a record 140 bids for the procurement of medicines for its hospitals and dispensaries.

“This is a record, as neither health department of Sindh Government nor the CDGK has received such a huge number of bids in the past,” an official of CDGK informed PPI.

He said that another significant aspect was the reduced rates offered by interested parties, as these rates were lesser than the rates at which the government had been procuring medicines.

He maintained that the CDGK health department had been observing a gradual increase in the number of bids every year, as last year around 87 bidders expressed their interest in this regard.

The bids were being considered by the CDGK Purchase Committee, which would take a final decision after thorough deliberations in the coming days, he said, adding that the committee was also responsible for checking the procurement procedure, besides quality of the medicines.

The CDGK had the authority to procure medicines for around 274 dispensaries, urban and rural health units, scattered in different towns, besides those for the major city hospitals, the official said.—PPI
