SIALKOT, Dec 5: Punjab Revenue Minister Gul Hameed Rokhari has said patwaris would soon be given the status of revenue officers.

He was speaking after administering oath to newly elected office-bearers of the Anjuman Patwarian here on Friday.

He said the Punjab government has started revamping the revenue department. Patwaris would be given residences and office in their patwar circles, he added.

The step has been taken to redress public grievances. Patwaris and gardawars were public servants and they should serve the people diligently, he said.

He assured patwaris that their problems would be solved on priority basis.

Mr Rokhari said the Punjab government was also considering a proposal to enhance the salaries of patwaris and gardawars.

Sialkot district Nazim Mian Naeem Javaid said revenue record would be computerized. The district government has arranged computer training of 250 patwaris.
