KARACHI, Dec 5: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan on Friday called for carrying out round-the-clock work on all on-going development works in Karachi.
He said that many vital roads were in a state of disrepair and the commuting public had been facing problems and they need to be provided a relief as early as possible.
The governor on Friday went round various parts of the city and reviewed the progress reports of ongoing development schemes.
He was accompanied by adviser on local government Waseem Akhtar, acting Nazim Tariq Hasan, principal secretary Akhtar Zamin, DCO Mir Hussain Ali, EDO Works Shoaib Siddiqi, City Police Chief, DIG Traffic and other officials.
The governor directed that while constructing roads and flyovers, steps be taken to facilitate the pedestrians and cycle- riding people besides making necessary provisions for disposal of sewerage and rain-water.
The governor first visited the under-construction FTC flyover and inspected the work. He was informed that 55 per cent work has been completed and the project.
The project was launched on July 9 at an estimated cost of Rs 109.40 million and will be completed on July 8.
Regarding Shahrah-i-Quaideen flyover, he was informed that its work started on Feb 21 and so far 17 per cent work has been completed. The project will be completed on Feb 20, 2005, at an estimated cost of Rs 109.40 million. This project will also have a children’s park.
Later, the governor inspected the Korangi Road improvement work from Hino Chowk to Korangi Crossing. He called for further accelerating the pace and completing the work ahead of schedule. He was informed that 50 per cent work has been completed.
The work was initiated on May 6, 2002, and will be completed by March 30.
From Hino Chowk, the governor drove to Shirin Jinnah Colony, Clifton, and reviewed the improvement work of Shahrah-i-Ghalib, from Shahbaz Qalandar chowk to Shahrah Baidil Chowrangi.
The governor directed that all encroachments from adjoining areas and the park be removed immediately, along with systematic parking of tankers.
He also reviewed the work on Mauripur Road, Northern Bypass and the road from Gulbai Railway crossing PAF Base Masroor gate.
He was informed that 50 per cent work on Shahrah-i-Ghalib has been completed and it will be over by Feb 28 at an estimated cost of Rs 3.8 million.
The governor was informed that 30 per cent work on Gulbai crossing has been completed and it will be ready by March 14 at an estimated cost of Rs 13.38 million.
NHA’s Col. Wahid briefed the governor regarding details of the Northern Bypass, while DCO Mir Hussain Ali, EDO Works Shoaib Siddiqi and other concerned officials briefed him about other projects.
The governor directed the city government authorities to give priority to maintenance of roads and for ensuing better sanitary conditions around the projects.
He took notice of garbage dumps, broken footpaths and railings and encroachments at certain places and asked the authorities to pay attention to them.
He directed that all possible steps be taken for providing alternate roads and to keep the traffic moving while working on road and flyover schemes.—APP
