Ali Zafar spins KPT into final


KARACHI, Dec 3: Leg-spinner Muhammad Ali Zafar took five wickets to spin Karachi Port Trust (KPT) into the final of the DHA Trophy KCCA Inter-firms cricket tournament when they whipped Sui Southern Gas Corporation (SSGC) by 52 runs at UBL Sports Complex Ground on Tuesday.

He returned with the figures of five wickets for 31 runs as SSGC were bowled out for 198 while chasing victory target of 251.

Rashid Hanif also produced a fine all-round show in his team’s success. He hit a super 50 with four boundaries and two sixes. Later he took two for 37 runs with his slow as left-arm spin.

In the last quarterfinal Central Police (CP) shocked Dewan Sugar Mills (DSM) by four wickets at KCCA Stadium to reach the last four stage. Adnan Baig cracked 73 with three boundaries and left arm leg-spinner Riaz Ahmed took three wickets for 29 runs.

KPT 250-8 in 50 overs (Rashid Hanif 50, Fahadullah 48, Iqbal Shaikh 36, Ariz Kamal 34, Maisam Hasnain 33, Faisal Mirza 17 not out; Nizamuddin 3/35, A.Qadir 3/58)

SSGC 198 in 49.5 overs (Irfanullah 59, Nadeem Naeem 31, Sajid Qureshi 28, M.Zafar 27; M.Ali Zafar 5/31, Rashid Hanif 2/37).

CP bt DSM by four wickets

DSM 175 allout in 49.2 overs (M.Ghazan 46, Rizwan Fareed 28; Riaz Ahmed 3/29, Zaheer Abbas 2/25, Faraz Ahmed Khan 2/21)
