UN session on barrier next week

UNITED NATIONS, Dec 3: The UN General Assembly will hold a special session next week to discuss Israel’s construction of a controversial West Bank fence in violation of its resolutions.

The session has been scheduled at the request of the United Nations Arab Group, a UN spokesperson said.

At a special session on Oct 21, the General Assembly overwhelmingly adopted a resolution deeming construction of such a barrier illegal under international law and calling upon Israel to “stop and reverse” the plan.

The General Assembly declared that the project contradicted international law, passed by a vote of 144 to four, with 12 countries abstaining.
