Water theft case leads to dispute

By Our Correspondent

NAWABSHAH, Nov 15: The union council Nazims and irrigation officials held demonstrations against each other outside the local press club on Saturday.

Several irrigation officials of Nusrat division held a demonstration and staged a sit-in against the Nazim, union council Bucheri, Naveed Latif Abbasi, his three brothers and nine others for stealing water, threatening the officials and beating Daroghas.

On the other hand, the Nazims of Awam Dost Panel and the Awami Ittehad blocked the road and held a demonstration against the irrigation officials for lodging fake FIRs of water theft against the Nazim, his brothers and other persons.

In the meantime, ASP Saddar, Zubair Drashek, reached the spot and managed to control the situation.

Later, speaking at a press conference, district Naib Nazim, Khalid Channa, Nazim Latif Abbasi and several others accused the sub-engineer, Zulfiqar Sehto, of corruption.

They said he had demanded Rs100,000 from Mr Abbasi for some watercourse and on his refusal registered a fake case against him.

They said that if action was not taken against corrupt irrigation officials then the Nazims would protest opposite the press club on Nov 18 after a district council session.

On the other hand, the irrigation officials, including the sub-engineer, alleged that the Nazim had tampered with a watercourse.
