PESHAWAR, Nov 13: The Afghan constitution drafting commission completed electoral exercise in the North-West Frontier Province and Punjab on Thursday and elected eight representatives of refugees for the upcoming Loya Jirga (grand assembly).

These eight elected members including a woman will participate in the Loya Jirga to be held in Kabul on December 10. The jirga will approve new draft constitution for the country.

Afghan president Hamid Karzi unveiled the draft constitution in Kabul on November 3.

A representative of the commission here told Dawn that electoral process in refugee camps and urban areas of the North-West Frontier Province, Islamabad, Punjab and tribal areas had been completed.

He said the electoral process in Sindh and Balochistan would start in a couple of days.

The commission will elect 13 representatives from Pakistan for the jirga who will represent the 1.3 million refugees, living in different camps and towns.

Those who have been elected for the jirga are: Syed Mohammad Ali from Punjab/Islamabad, Abdul Nasir Shafiq, Haji Dost Ahmad (Peshawar), Fazl Rehman (Kohat), Haji Hayatullah (Malakand), Haji Gul (Hazara) and Badsha Mir (Bannu). Gulali Jabarkhel has been elected on women reserve seat.
