NEW DELHI, Nov 3: Pakistan High Commissioner to India Aziz Ahmad Khan on Monday said Kashmir was the only issue between New Delhi and Islamabad and reiterated the need for early resumption of bilateral dialogue between the two countries to address this dispute.
Once the process to address the Kashmir dispute starts, it will have salutary impact on the bilateral environment, creating propitious conditions for much broader cooperation in diverse areas, he told newsmen after his meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi at the Indian Parliament House.
In reply to various queries posed by newsmen, Aziz Khan said Pakistan responded positively to the Indian proposals unveiled on Oct 22, as majority of them flew from the wide-ranging confidence building measures announced by Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on May 6 this year.
Answering a specific question regarding the Pakistan proposal of involving UN in launching a Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service, the high commissioner said Islamabad merely underlined the legal aspects of the situation with regard to the Kashmir dispute.
Earlier, during the meeting, Mr Aziz said that besides resuming train and air services between the two countries, a dialogue process might also be initiated, according to an official release issued by the speaker’s office.
Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi during the discussion said that both countries wanted peace and in this regard Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had taken peace initiatives thrice during this year alone.—APP
