ISLAMABAD, Nov 3: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has expressed his displeasure over lengthy and convoluted summaries and reports being submitted to his secretariat by various ministries and corporations on matters of vital importance.

A senior official of the Cabinet Division told Dawn that at times it became very difficult for the prime minister or the federal cabinet to take a decision based on these summaries and such delays in decision making caused embarrassment for the government.

The official said it was part of training of the government officials to prepare summaries on important matters in a set format but they seldom adhere to the guidelines. As a result, they submit very lengthy and lopsided summaries and reports to the prime minister and the cabinet.

The official said the issue had also come up for discussion at a recent cabinet meeting, which decided that “the reports submitted to the prime minister’s secretariat should be brief, concise and to the point”.

Accordingly, all the ministries, divisions, autonomous and semi-autonomous corporations and government agencies have been asked to follow an official format under the rules and be brief and concise while submitting summaries, proposals and reports to the federal cabinet and the prime minister to avoid wastage of time and to make balanced decisions on important matters.
