HYDERABAD, Nov 3: Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palijo has said the rulers are committing fraud with Sindh on the pretext of construction of new water reservoirs.
He was speaking at the party’s general council meeting held at the Awami House in Qasimabad here on Sunday.
Mr Palijo, who is also president of the Sindh Water Committee and a leader of the Anti-Greater Thal Canal Action Committee, said 33,000 cusecs of water of Sindh’s share was being stolen daily. As a result of this dacoity on the Indus waters, crops of Sindh valued at billions of rupees had been destroyed over the years, he added.
He said the people of Sindh would not allow construction of water reservoirs till the province was compensated for its losses and it was guaranteed its constitutional rights about water distribution.
The general council adopted several resolutions.
It accused the rulers of throwing Sindh at the mercy of landlords and tribal chiefs and said the province was divided between them in the name of district governments.
It observed that growers and peasants had been rendered bankrupt by reducing rates of crops. The meeting stressed the need for unity among the people of Sindh to protect their future by brining about changes in the system.
It condemned the arrest of Alliance for Restoration of Democracy president Makhdoom Javed Hashmi and demanded his immediate release and withdrawal of what it called fake cases against him. It also demanded the release of other political prisoners.
The general council criticized the alleged conspiracy to convert the people of Balochistan into a minority in the garb of development of Gawadar. It was of the opinion that the so-called development of Gawadar was aimed at usurping natural resources of the province.
It announced that the people of Sindh would support the people of Balochistan in their struggle for their rights.
